Denny's River Electric Cooperative

On July 20, 1940, thirteen people met to discuss the lack of electric service to Charlotte, Dennysville, Meddybemps and Perry. In attendence were Lyston Frost, Louis Holland, Nelson Flood, Leo Annas, Curtis Palmeter, Cassius Bridges, Paul Simpson, John Bennery, Earl Frost, Lee Curtis, Ritchie Mattheson, Clifton Reynolds, and Oscar Whalen.

The result of the meeting was the formation of the Denny’s River Electric Cooperative, one of a thousand consumer-owned electric utilities formed to serve areas the investor-owned utilities would not serve. This organization is now a part of what is now known as Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative, Inc. in Calais, Maine.
