Phone Scammers Active December 2018

We’ve received notice from some area businesses that they have received fraudulent calls about past due electric bills. Fortunately, alert employees at these businesses recognized that something wasn’t right and exercised caution.

Nationwide, there have been hundreds of similar scams perpetrated over the past few years, with fraudulent callers claiming to represent a local electric utility or other company. Scammers can forge caller ID that says anything they want it to say, so it is important to remain alert.

If you receive a similar call, and you have any doubt that you’re speaking with an employee of Eastern Maine Electric, it is always okay to end the call and call us back at our main phone number.  Rather than using caller ID on your phone, be sure to look up our phone number in a phone book or at We’d rather you be safe than sorry.
