"Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative (EMEC) is Maine's premiere consumer-owned utility providing low-cost energy solutions and adding value to our members' quality of life through creative application of technology, capital, and a dedicated workforce.
EMEC is a non-profit consumer-owned electric utility serving parts of Aroostook, Penobscot and Washington Counties on Maine's eastern border with Canada. The primary goal of a rural electric cooperative is to provide quality electric service to its member-owners at the lowest cost consistent with sound management.

- I saw in the news that our bills are going to drop by 10% starting in April 2010. Will the whole April bill be on the new rate, or is that only on energy used after from April on out?

We are trying to go "Green" as far as recycling, watching energy use etc,etc,etc.. We have switched our light bulbs to compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs.
A friend who also wants to switch said she was told that there is more danger from mercury in the new bulbs if they break. Is this true?? - I heard space heaters can save energy costs, but after I got one, my electric bill went up. How can it save money if it makes my electric bill go up?
- I use oxygen at my home, and my electric bill has gone up a lot as a result. Is there any help in paying those bills?
- What is Touchstone Energy? Was Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative bought out a couple of years ago?
