Manager of Communication and Member Services

Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative (EMEC) invites applications for the position of Manager of Communications and Member Services.
EMEC is a financially sound and operationally strong consumer-owned electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Calais, ME. EMEC employs 35 extremely dedicated team members. EMEC serves 13,000 residential, seasonal, and businesses in Eastern Maine.
Responsibilities include:
- Develops and implements communication strategies that advance the cooperative’s goals and values.
- Develops and edits printed, audio, video, and online materials, including official notices, brochures, bill inserts, newsletters, and user guides.
- Interacts with stakeholders in the community.
- Provides communications with the media.
- Leads the planning and oversight of the Annual Meeting of the co-op membership.
- Oversees the elections of board members from the communities served.
- Guides co-op employees in member support as needed.
- Provides escalation for unresolved consumer issues, investigating circumstances and proposing solutions consistent with procedures, precedents, laws, and regulations, mediating between differing perspectives, and deciding resolutions.
- Administrates Maine’s Electric Co-op Youth Tour, which sends student leaders to Washington, D.C. as part of the national Electric Co-op Youth Tour.
- Communicates with the consumers regarding Cooperative matters, including during power outages.
Qualifications include:
- Sound judgment and strategic thinking;
- Experience in strategic communication, media relations, and crisis communication;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to communicate complex technical, financial legal, and regulatory information in a clear, member-friendly manner
- Familiarity with software for publications, editing photos, audio and video recording, and web publishing, as well as the Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities include:
- Financial statement review & analysis
- Financial studies & cost analysis
- Ensure timely preparation of financial statements and management reports
- Coordinate annual financial audit
- Monthly bank reconciliations
- Oversee the automated payment processing of phone payments & from E-billing
- Cash management
- Provide backup assistance to the payroll department
- Annual tax return
- Oversee the credit/collections department
- Oversees of the billing and accounting departments and the office employees
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Word.
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot different situations as well as the ability to pay attention to detail while understanding the overall picture.
